What was your best find this weekend?

This is what I found...a 12 x 14 chicken house! I know I know, who let me out unsupervised? But $35??!! A steal right?(Ask me again after I find someone willing to move it, lol.)My daughter and I have grandiose plans of turning it into a clubhouse/hang out for girls that are young and young at heart. A fresh coat of picket fence white paint, open up the front and put in salvaged glass paned doors that slide on old barn tracks, hang a few sparkly chandeliers (it's already wired!), urns with flowers, pea gravel walkway, weather vane up top, sleeping bunks with crisp cotton sheets and chenille throws...the ideas are making my head spin!!
It's bought and paid for but there is the nasty little problem of getting it to our yard...um, oh yeah, have to get it approved by the "developer" of our community too. "Really! We're not going to raise chickens (even though that sounds fun) we just want to play in it!" I've already started printing off pictures to show him our plans and open up his imagination...that is IF I can get it here...stay tuned...
So, tell me, what did you find? Does it make your heart pitter patter? Do tell!

  5. Well gosh, don't know if I want to say what I found since you found and bought a chicken coop. Puts my old wooden signs and old wooden storage boxes in the shade. I love, love, love the coop and the ideas you have for it!! What a price! I bought a greenhouse with no idea how to get it home...it worked out and this will too. Just too wonderful!

  6. Oh my oh my, that makes my heart go pitter-patter! I was excited when I thought you would be raising chickens but then when I saw what you wanted to use it for...blissful!

I would take that baby apart slat by slat if I had to to get it home!

Just because I'm anal retentive about things be sure to find out a sure fire way to clean it before the girls play in it. Histoplasmosis is really common in this area and I'd hate for something so amazing to make anyone sick. Ok, I feel better now telling you that, even if you already knew it. ;)

  9. $35?!?!?!?! Are you serious?!?!?!

    That is awesome!

Where there's a will, there's a way!! I'm sure you'll find someone to help you get it home.

Sounds like a fun mother/daughter project!!

  10. Beth, you are so right. Was a concern from the get go. The previous owner had thoroughly cleaned it a long time ago and it has not housed chickens in quite some time. I was worried about it having a eau de chicken perfume smell but it doesn't, even on a hot an humid day. Once here I think I will spray it down with bleach before painting and sealing it with Zinsser 1-2-3 (my favorite primer!).

Thanks SO much for mentioning that though. Didn't know the name and now I can do some research.

  12. Lisa...that is great!! A couple of weeks ago my husband who does a lot of the buying for the shoppe bought an old windmill for 10 bucks. Said he couldn't pass it up! He had to go back later & pull it down & haul it home on a flatbed trailer!! I couldn't believe it!! We just sold it...which makes me worried about the next item he will pull into the shoppe! HE WOULD BUY a chicken coop...especially one as cute as that!!

  15. WoW!

My guy is doing a remodel on an old farmhouse @TM and mentioned the owner wants that small barn/garage gone. I told him "I want 1 or 2 of the front doors with the gorgeous white chipped paint"; he said "he'll see what he can do."
My luck who-ever takes this down won't give those up either (i know i wouldn't) hehe.

    Congrats on this find!
    Love your blog!

  16. LOL... I love it! I found one too (and bought it) but mine actually houses three chickens. It's on an earlier post at The Vintage Nest. Who knew keeping chickens would be so much fun and are as much a part of our household as the dog and cat. We were lucky in that the people we bought it from had a friend with a flat bed huge truck and moved it for us for a nominal fee.

  17. Oh Lisa...you have such wonderful ideas on rehabbing old, precious, castoffs! I still think with yearning of your barn door table. It's been way too long since I've been to your store, but now that daughter is happily wed, followed by my niece last weekend, maybe I'll have a bit more time to stop and browse. I've just posted some wedding pics on my blog if you want to see the final result of all of that planning...Love your store and do shout outs for you all the time...Bren from Logan
