Can you do a whole room with one roll of wallpaper?

I can! Initially I wanted to try Deb Dusenberry's (of Curious Sofa) water staining trick (you will have to scroll down to 3/15/07 to see it) but I gave up after multiple attempts. She was even good enough to give me some pointers via email. I am totally a visual learner though and I don't think I can sway her into coming here for a personal training session.
This is my only "before picture" as I wasn't really thinking I would post this. So forgive me of the pine and Christmas touches.
Here is the "after". I just can't commit to a whole room of paper (especially since I only have 2 rolls of this vintage find). I'm too distracted by "shiny things" and often side tracked in the middle of redoing a room to commit to paper. But ragged bits here and there...as if years and years had passed since this paper was hung...as though the walls could tell stories of others who graced this cottage before us.

I still may have to try the water staining one more time as I think it needs some depth. You know what they say, the 27th time is a charm! Deb...headed to Ohio anytime soon? Odie and Bear would love to have Pearl visit!

  1. What a cute room. That's a great idea for just a touch of pattern and color.

  2. I really like that idea. A peek of the past. A hint of what was there. It is really clever and interesting. I am like you, I could never commit to a whole room or even a whole wall.

  4. That is a clever idea Lisa! A great way to add that vintage touch using what you have. I am drawn to muted patterned wallpaper, but honestly, I don't have courage to do a whole room! This is a good compromise!

Also, I love your smocked curtains. They look so flirty and sweet! I have a stash of those somewhere, and you've just inspired me to pull them out and do something with them!

    Have a good week!

  5. Adorable! I love it! Not being a fan of wallpaper this is just enough!

Can I also say how excited I am that you're posting pictures of your house? I've always wondered how amazing it would be and now having proof is so exciting!

  6. Love the wallpaper look, but I love wallpaper. I only have one room in my whole house that is not wallpaper and I can't wait to do that room also. Painting to me is too boring and I know the work of wallpapering is hard but I love the end result and have always had wonderful comments of how "Homey" my house is with everything wallpapered. I also do not change my look that often though because of the cost. Wallpapering is by far more expensive than painting, but I have always loved the end result and wouldn't want to change it for years to come anyway, but I do love that idea with the vintage wallpaper though. Maybe that could be an idea for my bedroom which is still painted. Love the look though. Carol

  7. OK, You have wowed me with this idea, I have done it with faux paper stones that look as though they are falling away... but old paper? I could really run with this - what an EXCELLENT idea!
Come by for a giveaway if you'd like.
    Warmly,

  8. Gosh, I really like this. I said no more wallpaper since it is so hard to remove. But, I may just have to do something like this.
I visit your store as often as I can. So glad to have a place like yours near my home.

  9. I did a very similar thing in the shop. I also tried to give it a bleached out, faded look to the wallpaper by wiping on deluded white paint. It gave some much needed texture to an all white area. Your room looks so romantic and timeworn, which of course I love!

  12. Clever idea - it adds sophistication and a touch of mystery. I love the Queen Anne's lace. It's a double treasure - it grows abundantly and is so beautiful. Love the whole look. Simple yet sophisticated.

  15. I love it! I've never thought of doing that before and I can totally relate to the whole distractedness. My poor husband puts up with a lot when I'm redecorating - which is basically all the time.
