A Fork in the Road to Minnesota (fork=detour=missed the show)

A very quick post...more pictures tomorrow...working like a crazy woman getting the shop spun into all her glory with freshly gathered farmhouse finds for you. Thank goodness for family (and really good friends!) and their willingness to help!! Mostly my insanely patient husband who is discovering that he is pretty darn good at packing/unpacking truck & trailer, general shop keeping and merchandising! If you don't follow me on Facebook, let me bring you up to speed and I will make a long story short and sweet. We never made it to Minnesota last week. Last Monday we were four hours into our fourteen hour road trip when I was blindsided with a kidney stone the size of Jupiter :-) (I can laugh about it now...not then, if you've had them, you know...excruciating doesn't begin to describe the pain.) So five hours at an ER in Greenfield, Indiana resulted in us being sent home to Ohio for me to be admitted to our local hospital that night. Four days and one laser surgery later I was sent home only to return the next day in an ambulance. I said long story short so let's end it here...I'm better...on the mend I should say, JunkMARKET Under Glass was a HUGE success for  Sue Whitney and all the amazingly talented vendors. I  am bummed I missed it but have already marked my calender for the the Spring 2013  event.
Be sure to friend me on Facebook too...daily postings happening there!!
Also...it's time to pre order the April edition of Jeanne d' Arc Living AND......drum roll please........due to the good folks at JDL sourcing the printing for the US edition right here in the US the rate has dropped substantially!! So now it's just $13.95 plus shipping/handling....only $19.95 now!!! Click on the cover below to order yours now, at the new low price they will go FAST so don't delay. Be sure to come back here and check out photos...more to come tomorrow.
I have been trying to get more on the website shopping area lately too but as always, if you see something on the blog that is not available on my website send me an email and I'll see what we can do for you.
So the shop is packed with all kinds of new and old treasures!! Like this vintage bamboo set of five chairs and a matching table (with two leaves). I have left it as found in off white paint but, with the right cushions I think it would look AMAZING painted black.
Here are just a few quick shots I took with my phone...more to follow tomorrow from the real camera.
 Lots of fabulous new goods...
And of course always a funky pastiche of one of a kind vintage finds like this folk art canoe men's tie holder from the 1930's.
 An old general store piece...
 HUGE faux clam shell...
 Vintage on the wing...
Industrial dipping basket, wouldn't this make a great pendant/chandelier?
Spring time nests! Perfect for tucking anywhere.
Numbered metal wall pocket organizer, love these! Order online here.

Everything looks better with a splash of candle light and these little capiz shell lotus blossoms can do just the trick anywhere in your home.

SOOOOO much more, more pictures tomorrow.

Dealer Feature - Erika Cady, Not Your Grandmother's Rhinestones

Introducing Erika Cady of Imakdee.Blogspot.com, another fabulous vendor (and fellow Buckeye!) from the upcoming Vintage Marketplace in Nashville, Tennessee.
She is a lover of old rusty things, dented, dinged, tossed out and forgotten.
She designs jewelry made up of old broken vintage jewelry, her passion for the last 10 years.
(That's Erika on the right, with her sister who was helping her at the Springfield Extravaganza show.)
She looks for the unique pieces, the ones everyone else passes over and then she gives it new life.
 Eclectic but classic.
Eclectically perfect.

Join Erika, Theresa of Timeworn Interiors, Sue Whitney, myself and more at
Hendersonville Expo Center

Dealer Feature - Theresa Smith of Time Worn Interiors

I would like to introduce you to one of the fabulous vendors that will be joining me at The Vintage Marketplace in Nashville. Theresa Smith of Time Worn Interiors is no stranger to phenomenal shows, just take a peek at these pictures of her booth at the most recent Marburger show.

In Theresa's words: I love anything that has old crusty paint that is peeling and flaking off! I love architectural salvage! And last but not least I love RUST! I enjoy taking a piece of junk and turning it into something useful.
I don't know about you but these pieces no longer resemble junk do they? I would welcome any of them in my home.
Theresa has loads of one of a kind items she fashions out of found elements using her own welding gun! Of course husband Craig loves to get in on the design and execution of these unique pieces as well. They make a good team don't you think?

Oh. My. Goodness. LOVE this table!!
Theresa and I have been "blogger friends" for a few years now although we have never met in person. We'll be correcting that soon. Her creations and talent for displaying found objects never cease to inspire me. You can check out her blog at Time Worn Interiors or better yet, plan on seeing her in person at The Vintage Marketplace Show in Nashville! It's right around the corner...Feb 2-3-4!

urban farmhouse on JUNK MARKET Style...

One of the Queens of repurposing & recreating...Sue Whitney, shopped urban farmhouse at the Ohio Country Living magazine fair last month to find items to use for her demonstration. She blogged about our tent on her website JUNK MARKET Style. I couldn't agree more with her that one of the best things about the fair is meeting new people and making new friends. (Which I had the pleasure of doing for three solid days thanks to ALL of you!!) And now I include Sue on that list. If you are new to her blog and website settle in with a cup of coffee or tea...you're sure to be amazed! It is chock full of creative and talented contributors from all over the country!

Oh yeah...she posted about her visit to our tent!!!! Thanks Sue!!

Country Living 2010

Hey everyone!! Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the beginnings of our autumn season. We have just returned from the 5th Annual Country Living magazine fair. WOW...what a weekend!! It's one big Country Living party!! What would the fair be without a little drama? I'm sure you all remember 2008 and that little breeze named Hurricane Ike that blew through on Sunday. These photos are NOT from that year...this is how the fair started out THIS year.
One of Ike's cousins visited us on Wednesday. With tornado sirens blaring we (my parents, me, friend Kimberly, fellow dealer and collector friends Lisa and Scott and their young daughter, who were set up with me) tried to keep our tents from flying into the next county. It quickly became too dangerous to hang on to metal poles with a "kite" attached. I mean let's face it...all that great stuff we hunt down and treasure is really just stuff, and it's replaceable stuff. Everyone on the fairgrounds was soon running for cover and the sanctuary of the church basement is where we found ourselves. When the storm blew over this is what we found, three hours of tent set up down the drain.
But you know us country gals don't let much stop us from what we want to do! We draped everything with tarps and went home determined to start all over on Thursday. We crammed 2 days of set up into one and were almost ready Friday when the early bird fair goers poured in at 8:30 in the morning.
In the chaos of it all we had some minor crises arise; at separate times our register ran out of pennies and ones, the rain on Wednesday damaged our paper rolls for the register but we didn't know until we needed it. Thankfully my dear friend Kathi Bejma of KD Vintage helped me out.
Most of Friday and Saturday the line to pay was very long. While that's wonderful to see as a business owner I can't help but feel anxious when people have to wait that long. Everyone was absolutely wonderful and patient and I thank all of you! I'm thinking next year there will have to be 2 check out areas.

My friend Sherry made these gorgeous bouquets!! Sweet annie, golden rod, wheat stems, sunflowers, hydrangeas...simply a perfect autumn gathering.

These gorgeous pumpkins definitely stole the show. I started out with 57 of them and by 1pm Friday they were gone! More are on the way and should be in the shop next week.
Aren't they beautiful?
Sue Whitney, founder of JUNKMARKET Style stopped by several times. First was to shop for her demonstration 'Setting a Harvest Table' sponsored by Gorilla Glue. Half of what she had packed to be sent to the fair ended up getting shipped to Florida. So she was shopping for items. She snatched up industrial baskets, brown transferware plates, old keys and locks and more. I so wanted to head over to watch her in action but we were just way too busy (a good problem). She came back to show me the cutest napkin rings she made with burlap and the keys she bought from us. Hope to see some pictures on the internet soon!

Now the bad news...these are the only pictures I took. ARGH!! Had my 35mm with me the whole time but it was just too busy and the storm Wednesday put us way behind schedule. So can you help a girl out? Send me your pics from the fair. Would love to do a post with a collection of fair goers pictures.
